Even a dust-sized amount of Your power

Second year Commerce student, Majoring in Accounting and Taxation at the University of Canterbury.

During the first month of my second year at university it is customary to apply for internship jobs as an accountant for the summer afterwards. Of course, an internship is not essential to secure a good job after graduation, but it really helps and often the internship company will give a graduate role on the completion of your internship.

I was very scared of the prospect of not getting an internship, because there are only so many accounting companies here in Christchurch, and each company only hire around ten interns, which is a needle in the haystack compared to the amount of accounting students in Canterbury and Lincoln. But on Monday 18 March 2024 I was called by one of the big four firms for a face-to-face interview that Wednesday.

I was shocked for being shortlisted, but at the same time I freaked out and was shaking since I did not know what to do or how to face an interview for an accounting firm.

That night I was really scared, and for some reason I decided to go to the Adoration Chapel at St. Gregory’s.

I sat there and prayed, and I am not sure how I came up with these words, but I prayed; ‘Lord, I would like to ask You for some of Your power to help me in this issue. Even a dust-sized amount of Your power, is more than enough for me.’ After saying that prayer, I immediately calmed down, and was able to do my interview prep. I went to the interview at 10.00 am and they called me back at 3.00 pm to accept me into that position.
