God Shows me the Way

I am a veterinarian with a degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology which God used to open a pathway to become a lecturer to veterinary students.

The following describes a God moment I had as a university student that has had a major impact on my spiritual life for many decades.

While studying veterinary medicine at a university in the USA, I distinctly remember one Sunday sitting in the pew listening to a boring homily from the pastor. I thought to myself, ‘Why am I still going to Mass?’

Not long after that Sunday musing, one of my friends invited me to teach Sunday School for four- and five-year-olds. I agreed to sign up.

I not only thoroughly enjoyed the four years with the children but during this time I felt like I was part of the Church family. I realized that simply warming the pew every Sunday was not being part of the Church and began to be an active participant in Church life.

That major point in my life led to a closer relationship with God.

When God showed me that abortion was breaking His heart, He gave me a heart for the unborn baby and the pregnant mother. I joined the pro-life movement in 1983 to promote the sanctity of all life but especially the unborn, at churches, public stalls and other speaking engagements.

God encouraged me to run for a public office in Arizona. When I didn’t win the election, I asked God what was He doing? God told me that laws won’t stop abortion only changing people’s hearts would. God used my prolife activities to open a door to further post graduate study in Pharmacology and Toxicology which then opened a door to work in New Zealand.

Simply warming the pew on Sunday was not an option for me. I must serve others.

God shows me the way.
