Great things will come your way
Fidela Antonio-Ladores
I made a difficult decision to quit my job to save myself from further self-doubt. A job that was draining my spirit. Unfortunately, in my urgency to leave, I have found myself three months later still actively looking for work.
As months pass by, I wonder if God truly hears what is in my heart. Over the weekend, I received two regret emails among the many job applications I made. Some employers reach out with preliminary checks, asking if I know how to drive or how long I have been a citizen of New Zealand. After those calls, I often hear nothing more.
I started feeling anxious. Although I am actively looking for work and securing a couple of job interviews, I always end up the ‘second best’, according to employer feedback. The right opportunity is elusive in this economy, my friend said, too. I couldn’t help but feel the weight of that truth on my chest.
As I meditate this morning, I suddenly hear a deep voice in my heart telling me that “great things will come your way”. And so I asked, Is it you, God? I am not sure because sometimes I doubt if God truly listen.
In my disbelief, however, I turned to journal writing seeking God's compassion, grace, and mercy. As tears fell in my eyes, I asked God to teach me to be grateful for what I already have.
And then, I received great news from my nephew and niece separately. My nephew, after looking for work since September of last year, got hired for a role closer to where he lives. My niece, who never received her salary on time because she was only on a 'job order' contract, and could hardly make both ends meet, was hired by her current employer. My niece will start receiving her regular monthly salary starting this April.
It is at this moment that I understand the meaning of what God was telling me, “Great things will come your way”, but let me work on your loved ones first. After all, you implored for them first, didn’t you?
