I am a retired public-school educator who was fortunate enough to have parents of strong faith.

This encounter with God involves a miracle resulting from prayers by hundreds of people.

My stepson and his family decided to take an early autumn vacation out of state. Before leaving he was experiencing some pain in his right arm. Before leaving he saw a doctor and he was given some medication. So, they decided to continue with their trip. Upon getting to their destination, he was experiencing more pain and blisters were forming on his arm. He went to the nearby ER, and after further testing it was determined that he had a flesh eating bacteria.

He was transferred to a larger hospital where complications set in, his organs began to shut down, and he was put on a ventilator. His latest scan determined that the bacteria was spreading. His family was called in as this was a life-threatening event. The doctor was talking about amputation, and if it was not successful in stopping the spread of the infection death was imminent.

Prayers for my stepson were requested of family, friends, parishes, congregations, as well as many other prayer lines. As it turned out the prayers worked. Interestingly, a change of shift at the hospital occurred. A new doctor came on duty and read the chart deciding to change one of the medications.

Overnight a miraculous change occurred as organs slowly begin to return to normal function. It still took weeks of recuperating, therapy and skin grafts, but my stepson recovered the use of his arm. He does not have full strength today, but he is alive he has a functioning arm.

Never underestimate the power of prayer. It is not beyond God to work miracles through our prayers.
