My Psalm of Thanksgiving
Paula Robins
I wrote this after attending a course over several weekends where I was drawn to respond to the loving and sometimes challenging and very real experience of God in the talks, the people I was with, and my everyday life. I am married and a grandparent.
You reached out with your invitation
You invited me to open the closed doors of my heart
In your safety I was able to reveal to you the secrets of my heart
Your truth released me into freedom
Your healing brought me into intimacy
Your trust gave me the courage to believe
Your teaching both awakened my spirit and stilled my restlessness
Your love embraced me and warmed me
Your word calmed my inner turmoil and my anxiety fled
Your light shining on my childhood wounds brought healing
Your forgiveness freed me from guilt
In you I found no condemnation
Your call asked me to give of myself
Your kindness softened me
Your generosity showed me how to surrender everything that stood between us
Your laughter brought joy to my soul
Your pain caused me grief
Your presence dissolved my fear
Your beauty made music in my heart
Your total acceptance of me halted my striving
Your desire to mend our relationship brought me to true repentance
Your covering shield dismantled my stony structures
Your promises led me to give away my own bitter vows
Your authority empowered me to walk away from my rebelliousness
Your gentleness wrapped me in peace
Your honesty brought me into true friendship
Your humility fractured my pride and humbled me
Your patience honoured me
Your belief in me gave me hope
Your wisdom strengthened my faltering walk
Your understanding melted my defences
Your enthusiasm drew me to follow you
Your Cross showed me how to die
Your Resurrection showed me how to live
For all this I thank you Lord
